MICHAEL J. HANLY's Obituary
Michael Joseph Hanly, 70, of Ashburn, Virginia, died Saturday, December 25, 2021 at his home in Ashburn. Michael was born on March 23,1951 in New York, New York and is the son of the late Elizabeth and Thomas Hanly.
Michael graduated with a Masters Degree in Finance from NYU. As a finance professional for over 50 years, Mike was a mentor to many, a dedicated and loyal partner to his team, and trusted by all.
A hallmark of Michael’s personality was his ability to be honest and candid. Many sought his advice both professionally and personally for his ability to listen and give honest actionable feedback.
Michael’s passions revolved around spending time with family, friends, and neighbors. He enjoyed reading and playing chess. He was also an avid traveler to the local breweries, enjoyed family vacations to the Jersey shore and Lake Anna, and looked forward to Sunday Football and family dinners.
One of Michael’s most important successes was the legacy he built and the family of loved ones that will never stop caring for him. He is survived by his wife, Vicki; his son, Christopher; his daughters, Karen and Jennifer; his grandchildren: Lilly, Evan, Leah, Emma, Grace, and Luke; and his brother Kevin Hanly.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday, January 8, 2021 from 1 to 3 pm at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA 20175; where funeral services will follow at 3pm. A memorial celebration is planned for the future.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Michael’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
