Michael Mackert's Obituary
MICHAEL J. MACKERT, 65, of Leesburg, VA passed away peacefully at his home on March 5, 2007.
Mr. Mackert was born July 24, 1941 in Cumberland, Maryland and was the son of the late Joseph E. and Margaret Secrist Mackert. His wife of 44years survives him, Cynthia M. Mackert; one daughter: Jennifer M. Mackert of Ashburn; one son: Michael D. Mackert, of Frederick; four siblings; Adrian A. Hopkins of kalamazoo, Michigan, Peggy Jo Campbell of Macungie, Pennsylvania, Susan S. Smith of La Vale, Maryland, and Mark R. Mackert of Bratenahl, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He attended Mt. St. Mary’s University and Frostburg State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude. Most of his professional career was in Human Resources Management with Hazelton Corporation in Vienna, Virginia, where he retired as a Corporate Vice President. Later Mr. Mackert began a selective consulting practice and subsequently joined Consat/RSI as Director of Human Resources before finally retiring in 1998.
While employed at Hazelton, Mr. Mackert was active in community and academic partnerships. He served as Chairman of the Northern Virginia Community College Veterinary Technology Program, initiated a Hazelton-Benjamin Franklin Business/School Partnership, served as Treasurer of Friends of Loudoun Mental Health, and was appointed to serve on the School Superintendent’s Task Force to revise the Vocational Education Program for Fairfax County. He also enjoyed coaching boys’ and girls’ soccer for several years in Loudoun County.
For the past thirty years, Mr. Mackert was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Leesburg, where he served as a lay Eucharistic minister.
Friends may call on Friday March 9, 2007 at the (little chapel) Chapel of Immaculate Conception at St. John’s located on North King Street in Leesburg, from 9:30 until the time of the Memorial Mass at 11:00am.
