Michael Dwayne Smith's Obituary
Michael (Mike) Dwayne Smith, 66 of Moneta, Virginia (formerly of Leesburg and Sterling, Virginia) passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.
Born Wednesday, April 16, 1958, he was the son of the late Ernest W. Smith, Jr., and the late Betty Mae Poland Smith.
Mike was a 1977 graduate of Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Virginia. He married his High School sweetheart Lisa (King) Smith on June 16, 1979. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this year.
Upon graduation, he joined the family business Smith, Thomas & Smith where he worked until his retirement in 2008.
Mike went on to work as a school bus driver with the Loudoun County Public Schools for 10 years. What he enjoyed most and what made him happy were his little kindergarten riders. The little ones were always eager to share their stories from their day at school and other happenings in their lives with “Mr. Mike.”
His favorite hobby was building remote controlled airplanes where he enjoyed flying them in the fields of Loudoun County.
Mike and his wife moved from Leesburg to Moneta, Virginia in 2022 and built their dream home at Smith Mountain Lake where he spent his last years with family and friends.
He leaves his family to cherish his memory including his wife Lisa, children Crystal Smith of Berryville and Andrew (Drew) Smith of Manassas, brother Gordon Smith (Connie) of Moneta, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers/sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and close family friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents Ernest and Betty Smith and brother Rodney Smith.
