Nancy Torlinski Rundell's Obituary
Nancy Rundell passed away on August 8, 2016 at Falcons Landing Retired Officers Community in Potomac Falls, VA. She was born October 5, 1922 in Nanticoke, PA, daughter of Nancy Reynolds and Navy Captain and attorney Michael John Torlinski. The family moved to Washington D.C. where Nancy attended Woodrow Wilson High School. She graduated from Cornell University at the start of WW II and became a Navy Wave Officer assigned to Boston as Communication Officer. After the war, Nancy was hired by noted publisher Esther Van Wagner Tufty. She left to marry Francis E. “Bud” Rundell, 2nd generation West Point graduate, decorated Air Force officer, B17 pilot and POW, on June 26, 1947 and celebrated 65 loving years together. Nancy was a leader, an author and organizer. She served as officers wives club president, magazine editor, and authored “Front Row Balcony” after a 1978 tour in Iran. She and Bud traveled the world, attended class reunions, played golf, and bridge. Nancy read for the blind, served on scholarship boards, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. In 1996, they moved to Falcons Landing. Nancy was on the first Board and continued to contribute as librarian, internal TV show interviewer and host. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her sister Eunice in Florida and 2 daughters, Susan of San Diego and Leslie of Sonoma, CA.
A Memorial Service was held Sept. 21 at 2pm, Falcons Landing, Potomac Falls, VA.
Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will be held on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 9 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Disease Research.
