Nancy Ann Waters' Obituary
Nancy Ann Waters, of Manassas, Virginia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by
her loving family on April 24, 2024, at the age of 79. She was born and raised in
Sterling, Virginia, to the late Alonza and Justine Lee. From an early age, Nancy
embraced faith, joining Greater Zion Baptist Church, Ashburn, Virginia. She
remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life, joining First Baptist Church,
Sterling, Virginia.
Nancy attended Loudoun County Public Schools. As a youngster, she found joy in
music and dancing. Her soft, sweet voice, and gentle demeanor were loved by all,
but Nancy was also very bold. A little-known fact about Nancy is that her
determination to skip work and head to Washington, D.C, once landed her on the
stage, dancing for the legendary James Brown.
As an adult, Nancy relocated to Herndon, Virginia, also known as "Cooktown,"
where she embraced her roles as a devoted wife and mother. Stemming from her
childhood and working with her Aunt Tilly, cooking was one of Nancy's great
passions. She poured her heart and soul into creating delicious meals for her family
and friends. Her cakes and pies were loved by all.
Nancy dedicated her life to public service, as a Fairfax County Public Schools bus
driver, a role she held for nearly forty years. Through her daily interactions, she
touched the lives of countless students, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and
compassion. Her outstanding service and dedication were recognized when she was
honored as Bus Driver of the Year, a testament to her unwavering commitment to
the safety and well-being of students.
Within her family, Nancy radiated love and resilience, earning the endearing title of
"Nannie". She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister,
aunt, and friend. Her kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on all who were
fortunate enough to know her.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, James Waters II, her sons, James
Waters III and Reginald Waters, her brother, Sylvester Lee, and her sister, Geraldine
Harris. She leaves behind a legacy of love and wisdom, carried on by her son, Steven
Waters, daughter, Andrea Waters, grandchildren, Andre Waters (Audrey), Ryan
Little, Chase Little, and Sierra Little, great-grandchildren, Anaija, Amora, Aliyah,
Camilla, Carmelo, Jaylen, Elijah, Maniyah, Ramiyah, and Jeavah, her sister, Dorothy
Nickens, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
Nancy Ann Waters will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of
all who knew her.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Sterling, 21449 Potomac View Road, Sterling, Virginia .
A Funeral service celebrate Nancy's life, will follow at 12:00 PM on Saturday at First Baptist Church of Sterling, with the Bishop Leslie Patterson, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Valley Memorial Park, Annandale, VA.
