Oda Ellis Hawks
Oda Ellis Hawks, 92, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, December 7, 2022 at Guerin Woods in Georgetown, Indiana. Although his journey ended in Indiana, Oda had many homes throughout his life. Greenville, Indiana was his final home in order to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. However, he truly called Leesburg, VA and Cantonment, FL his hometowns as well.
Oda was born November 3, 1930 in Woodlawn, VA, the son of Harvey and Myrtle Hawks. He met and married the love of his life, Peggy (Tribby) Hawks in Lincoln, VA. After marrying Peggy, they made their home in Norfolk, VA. Oda’s first move through his long Naval career. His travels included many duty stations on the islands in the Pacific, Guam, the Philippines, Hawaii, Japan and duty stations throughout the states. He served in the Navy, during WWII; before Italy signed the peace treaty. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer, in the U.S. Navy with 30 years active duty.
Oda was a Southern Baptist who entrusted his faith in God above all else. He was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church in Georgetown, IN. In Cantonment, FL he was a member of Plainview Baptist Church when he lived in Cantonment, FL.
Oda enjoyed spending time with his beloved Peggy. She and “Odie” as she called him are finally reunited. Peggy and Oda would have been married 70 years in March of 2021.
Oda also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great children.
Oda was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers, Raymond, Boyd, and Earl and sister Grace. Oda is survived by his loving daughter Lisa Ann (Hawks) and her husband Kevin Duffy of Greenville, IN, his son Curtis “Jimmy” Hawks and his wife Mary Ann of Spartanburg, SC, and his brother Frank (Susan) of Chesapeake, VA, three grandchildren, Christopher Hawks (Emily) of Charlotte, NC, Esme Allen (Shayne) and Nathan Duffy of Greenville, IN. In addition, he had five great grandchildren, Peyton, Adalea, Skylar, Evelyn and Cora.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 22nd, 2022, from 1 to 2 pm, at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, Leesburg, VA. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 12 to 1 pm.
Graveside services with military honors will follow at 2 pm at Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA.
