Patricia J. Marks' Obituary
Patricia Jackson Marks, 90, died August 4, 2023, in McLean, VA. She was born in Washington, DC, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James T. Jackson, long-time residents of Leesburg, VA. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Anne Sullivan, and her grandson, Charles Sullivan, of Washington, DC. She is also survived by her brother, Tom Jackson (Vicky) of Landrum, SC, her nephew Steve Jackson (Megan) of Bluemont, VA and her stepdaughter, Dana Marks of Abingdon, VA.
Her first marriage to Dr. James McClelland ended in divorce. She remarried her beloved Dr. Barry Marks, and will be buried next to him in the Jackson family plot in Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA.
Patricia was well educated and graduated from St. Catherine's School in Richmond, VA, and from Wellesley College. Additionally, she earned an M.A. in English from American University, and a M.B.A. from the University of Rhode Island.
Professionally, she was a political consultant running campaigns for the Democratic Party in Virginia as well as in other states. Toward the end of her career, she taught ESL to devoted students at NOVA Community College.
Patricia was a born leader with a gift for friendship. She was the first working woman elected President of the Junior League of Washington, DC (1971-1973). Throughout her life, in community work and within her circle of friends, Patricia led the way with poise and wisdom.
She loved to travel, and her many journeys included sleeping in yurts in Mongolia, seeing the rare birds and mammals in Madagascar, and birding in the Pribilof Islands off the coast of Alaska.
