I'm honestly not sure what to say about Patrick that hasn't already been said. I knew Patrick in high school and truth be told, we hadn't spoken much since then, but I have always remembered him and known him as the funniest person I've ever known- hands down. Anybody who knew him would say the same. Anytime I ran into old friends in NOVA and we would reminisce about high school, Patrick's name would inevitably come up. "Have you talked to Patrick Altland lately?" "Do you keep in contact with Patrick Altland? How is he? I've yet to meet anybody more clever." I really have yet to meet anyone more clever since leaving NOVA. Reading everyone's stories of Patrick from high school on here, I've been sitting at my computer laughing, remembering all the funny things Patrick did and said. It didn't matter what class it was, if Patrick was in my class, it was automatically an awesome class that I was happy to attend. He even often had the teachers laughing.
I remember there was a silly theme song he used to sing whenever one guy in our class (his name escapes me) would be near "la la la la." I never, ever found out what the song was from but to this day, I still sing that song out loud whenever someone walks by with the demeanor or gait of the guy in our class. Nobody ever knows what I'm referencing or gets why it is funny but I always laugh to myself and think of Patrick when I'm reminded of it. And I still can't look at the Backstreet Boys without thinking of Dave (it really was uncanny- Patrick was just the only one witty enough to notice).
It's such a shame he had to leave us all so soon. He had such wit and charm so rare in the world. It's been a few months now and I'm still having trouble processing that this is real.
With love to the Altland family,
Jenny E.
