Patrick Wayne Ambers' Obituary
Patrick Wayne Ambers
December 17, 1947 – October 1, 2022
Patrick was blessed to be named after our Mom whose first name was Patricia. Of Mom called her last born son by his middle name “Wayne”, therefore everyone in the family, relatives, Friends, schoolmates and employers during his early years, called him “Wayne”. It was only after he returned home after his time in the Army was he called by Patrick. Anyway Wayne was a dreamer, a big dreamer. Some of his dreams matched, in size, his 6Ft 7 frame. He wanted to be an entrepreneur. The first business that I recall was his Limousine service. His fleet was made up of one Lincoln Stretch-limo that was really ready for the junkyard, but his philosophy was “YOU HAVE TO START SOMWHERE”. My Baby brother (I enjoyed introducing him to people as my Baby brother as he towered over me), was not afraid to fail and he never gave up. As I write this a thought just came to mind that he may have gotten the ENTREPRENEUR bug from our Mom’s oldest brother, Henry Beard who owned a tavern in Brunswick Maryland, way back in the day called “SWING INN”. The last dream that I am aware of was; he wanted to open a TESLA dealership in Leesburg. He had even gotten someone who would finance it. Well that is what I was told.
Wayne, at the age of “6” was the youngest member of the “Ambers brothers” gospel group. The group consist of Wayne and two older brothers, Henry “10” and Arnold “12”, with our sister, Joyce our pianist and our Mom ((managing and teaching, (1953 -1956)). God woke me around 4:45AM a few mornings after HE had called Wayne home with the only song that Wayne lead, “I’LL MAKE IT SOMEHOW”. And after all these years I was able sing the entire song, “but GOD”. I googled it later to make sure of the words.
My Baby brother had many nicknames. I will list some of them and maybe some of you were close enough to him to have heard some of them or use them.
Here they are: Jolly Green Giant, Gentle Giant, Big Bird, Scratchy Higgins and my favorite “GOBBLELISH”. Yes, “GOBBLELISH”! I don’t have a clue of what it means, but I do know that our Dad’s brother, Uncle Charlie, Charles F. Ambers, gave Wayne that name when Wayne was very young. I asked my cousin Joe, Uncle Charlie’s youngest son, if he knew the story behind that name and his answer was “NO” with a healthy laugh.
Well, Baby brother, now you can ask Uncle Charlie where that name came from and what it means. Then you can tell Joe one night just before he goes to sleep. Just kidding, we are both willing to wait until we meet again when we will be together again. Till then we will keep you in our hearts and thoughts. Oh, by the way you don’t have to worry about Michelle, she is going to be okay and she knows that she can lean on me when needed and now she really knows that God’s got her.
Love you Baby Brother,
Brother Bear
