Paul Joseph Garvin

Paul Joseph Garvin (88) passed away peacefully at his home in Aldie, Virginia, on September 3, 2025. Paul was born in Everett, Massachusetts, on October 16, 1936, to John and Margaret Garvin. He was the third of four “Garvin boys” who grew up in Revere, Massachusetts. After receiving a mathematics degree from Tufts University, Paul began his career at the Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Dayton, Ohio. It was in Dayton where he met and married the love of his life, JoAnn Marie (Ryan) Garvin. In 1967 Paul and JoAnn moved their young family to Fairfax, Virginia as the next step in his career had him working for the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon. In 1980 they built a house and moved the family out to their farm in Aldie, Virginia. In recent years, Paul’s retirement was spent raising cows, making hay and maintaining the fields of the farm he always dreamed of having. Paul was an avid fan of bluegrass music and served as the band coordinator for Lucketts Bluegrass for many years, bringing well known bluegrass bands to the old schoolhouse in Lucketts every Saturday night. Paul was predeceased by his brothers John Garvin of Revere, Massachusetts and Ronald Garvin of Wakefield, Massachusetts, and his eldest son Joseph Garvin of Sperryville, Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, JoAnn Garvin of Aldie, Virginia, his brother David (and Jacquie) Garvin of Ashton, Maryland, his daughter-in-law Sue Garvin of Sperryville, Virginia, his daughter Mary (and John) McDuffie of Silver Spring, his son Danny (and Cheri) Garvin of Leesburg, Virginia, his daughter Ann (and Doug) Johnson of Ellicott City, Maryland, his grandchildren Johnny (and Samantha) McDuffie, James (and Meghan) McDuffie, Paul McDuffie, Ben (and Rebekah) Rupchis, Ryan Garvin, Matthew (and Julie) Garvin, Sean Garvin as well as several great grandchildren, and extended family. Family and friends will celebrate Paul with a Mass of Christian Burial at the old St. John the Apostle Catholic Chapel of the Immaculate Conception at the corner of Union and King Street in Leesburg, Virginia on September 6, 2025, at 12 noon. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery in Leesburg, Virginia.
