Paul Marshall Hurd's Obituary
Paul Marshall Hurd (Gus), 87, of Leesburg, VA passed away peacefully on September 1, 2017.
Born in Boston, MA on July 24, 1930, Paul grew up in Newton, MA. Paul graduated from Newton High school where he excelled in track. While attending college, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War where he took part in many battles on the front lines. Paul was proud to serve his country in the US Army. He was awarded a Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal w/4 Bronze Service Stars, a Combat Infantry Badge, and a United Nations and National Defense Service Medals. Upon his honorable discharge as a First Sergeant, Paul continued his college education and graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering from Boston University.
After college, Paul worked for Raytheon Manufacturing in MA. He married Nancy McHale and they eventually became parents to five children. He was later hired by IBM as a Cost Engineer and retired from there in Charlotte, NC.
Throughout his lifetime, Paul always worked hard. He loved his family, all Boston professional sports teams, family vacations, beach music, playing chess and bridge.
Paul was preceded in death by his son Bob. His remaining children are: Pam Wigfield (Greg), Cindy Murdock (Greg), Bill Hurd, Ken Hurd (Sandra). His nine grandchildren are: Rachel Waldron, Ryan Wigfield, Robert Wigfield, Kyle, Laura, Kelly and Meredith Murdock, Grant Hurd and Ashleigh Hurd.
The family would like to thank his caregivers who served him over the years. A special thanks to those who brought him peace, hope, laughs and prayers during their many visits.
A Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Greg Wigfield on Friday, September 8th, 2pm at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA 20175. The family will receive friends after the service. Paul will be interred with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Paul's name to 'Wounded Warrior Project' (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or a charity of your choice.
