Peter Halpin's Obituary
Peter Halpin, 68, died Saturday, January 27 at his home in Leesburg,
Virginia.
Mr. Halpin was born in Orange, New Jersey to the late Thomas A. Halpin
and the late Ethel Matthews Halpin, and grew up in Jersey City. He
graduated from Newark College of Engineering - now New Jersey Institute
of Technology - in 1959. After serving in the Army at Fort Belvoir and
in the Peace Corps, he moved to Washington in 1964. Mr. Halpin had been
an information specialist with the Library of Congress, and he later
developed databases at the Department of Defense, the Environmental
Protection Agency, and the Department of Health and Human Services, from
which he retired in 1995.
He was a member of Mensa, and a volunteer with the Homeless Children''s
Tutorial Project in Washington, D.C. In retirement, Mr. Halpin enjoyed
travel, jazz music, and genealogy - researching his own family history,
helping others to research theirs, and developing genealogical databases.
He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Joan Elizabeth Halpin,
and by his two sons Eric Glenn Halpin of Leesburg and Gary Kevin Halpin
of Daly City, California, daughter-in-law Doris Naik of Daly City,
granddaughter Chloe Lynn, sister-in-law Patricia Bauman Halpin of New
York City, nephew Michael Halpin of New York City, niece Carolyn
Halpin-Healy, her husband Timothy, and their children Tyler and Anna,
all of that city.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 2, at 11:00 a.m. at
Loudoun Funeral Chapels, 158 Catoctin Circle S.E., Leesburg, Virginia.
Interment will be held privately at a later date in California.
Donations may be made in Mr. Halpin''s memory to Loudoun Habitat for
Humanity.
