Pina Pilaro's Obituary
Pina Pilaro, 76, of Ashburn, Virginia and Eastport, Maine passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2015.
Pina was born Thursday, April 20, 1939, in Castellammare Del Gulfo, Italy. She arrived in the United States in 1948, returned to Italy as a student in Florence in 1953 until 1962 when she enrolled in New York University. She received a Masters Degree and worked as a college instructor in foreign languages at NYU and Rutgers University.
In 1965, Pina and Joseph P. Pilaro, M.D. were married in St Aloysius Church in Queens, NY. They spent 50 happy years together and made their home in Springfield, Vermont for more than 30 years. Pina was most proud of being a wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children to cherish her memory including Joseph Anthony Pilaro (Joe Gorrie) of New York, NY; Margaret Pilaro Barrette (Jeffrey) of Olympia, WA; and Mark Francis Pilaro (Meredith) of Potomac Falls, VA. She is also survived by four grandchildren whom she adored: Peter and Anne Barrette and Jack and Alex Pilaro.
She was predeceased by a daughter Frances Pilaro Wolstenholme, her parents Frank and Margaret Tesoriere and her brother Joseph Tesoriere.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 1:30 PM on Friday, June 12, 2015, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church Chapel located at 231 North King Street, Leesburg, VA.
Interment was held by the family at St. John’s Cemetery in Queens, NY, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lung Cancer Alliance, which supports critical lung cancer research and assists patients and families. They provided much support to Pina’s family after the loss of her daughter to lung cancer.
