Quentin Delano Dillman's Obituary
Quentin Delano Dillman, 81, of Waterford, VA, passed away on Monday November 9, 2015 at his home with his family by his side.
Born January 21, 1934 in Smyth County, VA he was the oldest of 5 children from the late Samuel Hugh and Emma Cleo.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Doyle Dillman, their 4 children: Kimberly Lynn Foskey (husband Mike), Rebecca Kay Schaffer (husband Tony) and twins Robert Quentin Dillman (wife Lori) and Richard Samuel Dillman (wife Liz, deceased); and their 6 Grandchildren: Jason, Shannon and Corinne Foskey, Brandon and Shelby Dillman and Avery Hare. Brother Joe Dillman, Sisters Betty Ross, Charlotte Garceau, and Joyce Kraft.
He graduated from Marion High School where he was voted best looking by his graduating class. He worked as a draftsman at Brunswick for a few years and that is where he met Ruth playing shuffleboard. They were married in 1957.
Quentin joined the Army Reserves 1955 and later enlisted and was eventually stationed at Ft. Belvoir. After being honorably discharged from the Army, they moved to Arlington, VA to start their Family. The family would move to Dunn Loring Woods, then to Chantilly, and finally to Waterford, VA where he could look out his kitchen window and see the garden, and many animals -- deer, turkeys, raccoons, and of course, the groundhog!
He continued his drafting career and decided to start his own Company in the early 60’s. He obtained his Class A build license and worked as a residential builder and remodeling contractor. This was a family business with his brother Joe and his sons Richard and Robert worked with him over the years. He retired from building but continued drafting providing architectural plans to homeowners and local contractors until his 80th birthday. His work ethic was a lasting impact carried on by his children.
In his earlier years he enjoyed bowling and playing the guitar. Raised a Christian he was a member of the United Methodist Church and sang in the Choir.
Quentin enjoyed reading Western and suspense novels, sitting on the porch and watching the rain, working in their garden and canning with Ruth. He enjoyed working with wood, building tables, clock cases for the family clocks and crafting bowls and candlesticks from his lathe. He enjoyed Family camping and the family apple picking trips to make apple butter in the backyard. Neighbors all came over for that fun event!
In later years he enjoyed his favorite TV programs, trips to the local produce stand for tomatoes, riding his tractor (which was parked in the garage) and the Family gatherings, always for Sunday dinner.
His life revolved around his Family. He was dedicated to his wife and children always placing their needs over his own. Quentin was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends Monday, November 16, 2015, from 1 pm to 2 pm, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, with a Memorial Service at 2 pm. A reception will follow, at 3 pm, at the VFW, 401 Old Waterford Rd., Leesburg, VA.
