Ramona "Pomie" Landi's Obituary
Surrounded by her children. Ramona “Pomie” Landi, 87, of Ashburn, VA, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Inova Loudoun Hospital due to complications.
Pomie was born August 9, 1938, in San Antonio, Texas, to Damaso and Francisca Velasquez. Throughout her life, she held many roles—nurse, postal clerk, dental assistant, and, later, a member of the U.S. Foreign Service as well as wife and mother —reflecting both her versatility and her desire to serve others.
Pomie will be remembered for her sparkling spirit, sharp mind, and the way her presence could fill any room. Throughout her life, she loved to celebrate—often the life of the party—quick with laughter and generous with her time, attention, and extraordinary cooking. A master in the kitchen, she served family and friends from a repertoire of time-tested recipes, making every gathering feel like home. She brought light and color to every outing, and she will be deeply missed.
After a love-at-first-sight encounter, Pomie married her beloved Gerald A. “Tony” Landi on August 6, 1961. She often told her daughter, Lisa, that the “best part of her day was when he walked through the door from work—just seeing him made her happy.” Tony passed away in 2016, and that enduring devotion remained the heartbeat of her life. Together, during their years with the U.S. Department of State, they traveled the world, sharing adventures, embracing new cultures, and cultivating lifelong friendships along the way.
She is survived by:
• Children: Dennis A. Landi (wife, Christina Landi); Lisa Y. Landi-Bernhardt (husband, David E. Bernhardt)
• Grandchildren: Rhys L. Gully; Chelsey M. Knarr (husband, William B. Knarr); Emma C. Landi
• Great-grandchildren: Rhyker J. Gully (8); Toni S. Knarr (6); Eric B. Knarr (3)
• Sisters: Janie Lozano; Angie Velasquez; Margie Fernandez (husband, Florence)
She was preceded in death by:
• Beloved husband: Gerald A. “Tony” Landi (2016)
• Sister: Victoria Landin
• Brothers: Ernesto Velasquez; Guillermo Velasquez; Damaso Velasquez
To know Pomie was to experience warmth, wit, true beauty, and a table set with love. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored, the friends she uplifted, and the countless meals, journeys, and memories she created.
