Rebecca "Becky" Mikel's Obituary
Rebecca “Becky” Mikel, age 39, of Leesburg, VA, passed away at her parents’ home in Clifton, VA Tuesday, October 1, 2019 surrounded by her family.
Born Wednesday, March 12, 1980 in Fairfax, Virginia, she is the daughter of Gary and Terry (Cavnar) French.
Becky grew up in Fairfax County and graduated from the College of William and Mary with a Bachelor of Arts degree and the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family with a Masters of Theology. Her lifelong love of animals led her to a career at the U.S. Humane Society, the Washington Humane Society, and the Northside Veterinary Clinic. An adult convert to the Roman Catholic faith, she was a steadfast volunteer with various ministries of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church of Leesburg, Virginia. Her proudest achievement, however, was as mother to two young boys and her fierce advocacy for them.
She is survived by her husband: John V. Mikel and their two sons: Joseph V. Mikel and Gary B. Mikel, parents Mr. and Mrs. Gary French, sister and brother in law Mr. and Mrs. Giovanni Talento, niece Adrianna Talento and nephew Christian Talento.
A Catholic Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday October 8, 2019 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church located at 101 Oak Crest Manor Drive Leesburg, Virginia 20176 with Father Kevin Larsen officiating. Interment will follow the service in St. John Catholic Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 7:00PM to 9:00PM on Monday October 7, 2019 at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Servants of the Lord, Provincial House, 28 15th St SE, Washington, DC 20003, a religious order of both apostolic and contemplative Catholic sisters, to whose prayers she credits the grace of her conversion and baptism.
