Reginald Coates' Obituary
Mr. Reginald “Reggie” Lee Coates, 67, of Leesburg, Virginia, died on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at Inova Loudoun Hospital in Lansdowne, Virginia.
Reggie was born November 7, 1943, in Waterford, Virginia, to the late Eva Lee Coates. He was one of eight children and was raised by his grandparents, Edna and Clarence Coates.
Reggie attended Waterford Elementary and Douglass High schools. After school he proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a Veteran of Korea. While in the service, Reggie received the National Defense medal and was honorably discharged in June of 1967.
Earlier in his career, Reggie worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Leesburg, Virginia. At the time of his death, he was employed by Inova Loudoun Hospital.
Reggie was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church of Leesburg where he formerly sang in the choir. Reggie loved to sing, and gospel was his favorite genre of music. He had a generous heart, a love for life, and especially love for family. He was quick-witted, had a wonderful sense of humor, and enjoyed a good laugh with family and friends. Reggie was an avid Red Skins fan. Besides watching the games, some of his favorite pastimes were bowling and playing “bid whist.”
In addition to his mother and grandparents, Reggie was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Jean Coates, who departed this life on August 13, 2010.
Reggie leaves to mourn his death and cherish his memory two sisters, Bonita “Bonnie” Jackson of Leesburg and Claudia “Tina Sis” Smith of Winchester, Virginia; four brothers, Charles of “Butch” Coates of Portland, Oregon, Earl “Bud” Coates of Brunswick, Maryland, Tony Coates of Leesburg, and Ray “Buster” Coates of Leesburg; an Aunt Elaine Henderson of Burkittsville, Maryland; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 12 at 1:00 p.m., at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, Virginia. The Rev. Kaye Coates, Associate Pastor of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church will officiate.
Interment will be held privately.
