Richard Burton's Obituary
Richard Leonard Burton, 60, of Ashburn, VA, died Friday, May 11, 2007, after a two and a half year battle with cancer. He was a son of the late Beatrice Irene Davies Burton and Charles Leonard Burton. He was a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute of Lexington, VA. He served his country as a Captain in the United States Army- serving in Korea and Germany. He later served six years stateside in the Army Reserves.
He was a devoted family man, who treasured his family above all else, and a member of the Sterling Park Baptist Church congregation. He was an avid reader, history buff and an antique car enthusiast, with a long passion for automobiles.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Audrey Bailey Burton of Ashburn, VA; his four children: Dr. Heather Burton Zalar and son-in-law Dr. Michael E. Zalar of Stafford, VA; Allison E. Burton and son-in-law Benjamin Conaway Mull of San Jose, CA, Richard Adam Burton and Brandon Bailey Burton both of Arlington, VA; four grandchildren, Alexandra Virginia Mull, Kaitlyn Marie Zalar, Andrew Nicholas Zalar, and Jackson Leonard Zalar.
He is also survived by his father C. Leonard Burton and step-mother Isabel D. Burton of Gadsen, AL, his brother, Michael Davies Burton and his wife Jessie L. Stull Burton of Buchanan, VA; his step-sister Eda Lynne Scopel and her husband Paul Anthony Scopel of Marietta, GA.
In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his step-brother Benjamin Harold Stange (wife Janet Porter Stange) of Birmingham, AL in April 1996.
Friends may call on Monday, May 14, 2007 from 6 to 8 pm at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA, and where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at 11am, with Dr. Archie Goldie officiating.
Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA.
