Richard "Rick" John Behrens, Jr.'s Obituary
Richard “Rick” Behrens Jr. was a man of great faith, a diligent father, and a compassionate, loving man to everyone he met. On March 13, 2016, he was called home to be with the Lord whom he humbly served for 47 years.
After graduating from Parkway South High School in 1987, Rick enlisted in the Navy and served loyally for 11 years. During those years, he graduated from both the Rochester Institute of Technology and the Naval Postgraduate School, rose to the rank of Lieutenant, receiving the Outstanding Military Person of the Year Medal from the Honolulu Council Navy League in 2000; and married his wife, Dawn, in 1991. In 2002, Rick left the Navy to support his family of five, and moved to Virginia where he worked for MITRE, Edge Consulting, and IBM (where he became an Associate Partner).”
While his career was at its peak, Rick was fully engaged in faith and family. As an Elder of the Presbyterian Church of America for 15 years (nine of which were spent at Potomac Hills Presbyterian Church in Leesburg, VA), he was cherished as a man who went above and beyond to serve his congregation. As a loyal husband and father, he raised three God-fearing children alongside his wife of 25 years, and always made his primary goal to serve his family happily. Rick is survived by his parents, Richard & Leona Behrens; sister, Annette Jansen; brother, Tony (Princess Behrens); wife, Dawn; Mother-In-Law, Peggy Eckerson; Sister-in-Law Karen Ward, and children, David, Laura, & Rachel. His nieces and nephews include Dylan, Tyler, Tia, Paige, Amaya, Ella, Aiden, and Grant. He was preceded in death by his Father-In-Law, Rowland W. Eckerson; and Brother-In-Law Grant Jansen.
Visitation is scheduled for March 31, 2016 from 1-4pm and 6-8pm at Loudoun Funeral 158 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, VA 20175. The memorial service is scheduled for Friday, April 1, at 2pm at McLean Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow. Rev. Dave Silvernail & Rev. Dave Dorst will officiate the memorial service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Rick's life. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Rick’s honor to Dulles South Food Pantry (http://www.dsfp.org) at 24757 Evergreen Mills Rd, Dulles, VA 20166. Condolences can be sent to www.loudounfuneralchapel.com. The family would like to thank OCDNZ Dive Club for their efforts.
