Richard K. Spencer's Obituary
Richard Keith Spencer, 63 of Ashburn, Virginia passed on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, in Leesburg, Virginia with his wife and children by his side.
Born Saturday, May 30, 1959, in Frederick, Maryland, he was the son of the late Marvin Gail Spencer and the late Elizabeth Gorman Spencer. Richard (Rick) is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Lorraine Marie Spencer, daughter, Erica Spencer, son, Ryan Spencer, brother, Robert Spencer (Melyndia), sister, Susan Akehurst (Don), mother-in-law, Pauline Rhode, his extended family, and a host of nieces and nephews from both families.
Rick was born and raised in Frederick, Maryland. He was a graduate of Governor Thomas Johnson High School, received his associates degree from Frederick Community College and his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Towson University. He spent his career in the engineering field working in the defense and satellite communications industries.
While in college, he met his wife Lorraine. They spent seven years together before marrying on November 3, 1990. What mattered most to Rick was his family. He was an amazing husband. He treasured Lorraine and was always her biggest fan. Rick was the greatest father. What made him most proud were his children. Their accomplishments made him beam with joy. He guided them through their life up until his very last day.
Life was an adventure meant to be lived fully for Rick. He loved to travel and experience everything life had to offer including good times with his closest friends, motorcycling, sailing, surfing, hiking, skiing, camping, and fast cars. Rick was an avid reader, lover of comedy movies, and cartoons. Whenever Rick was around, there was never silence. He had a passion for music and enjoyed sharing his collection and knowledge with others.
He was generous, kind, and encouraging to others. He had a lot of love to give which was demonstrated by his warm, signature embrace. When he hugged you, you felt his love and sincerity. Throughout Rick’s life he lived across the country, residing in Maryland, California, Texas and settling in Ashburn, Virginia with his family for 26 happy years. The Spencer house was a known gathering place for friends, family, and neighbors. His presence, strength, and kindness will be missed by all.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, Virginia. A Celebration of Life gathering will follow at 3:00 PM where fond memories of Rick will be shared.
