Richard William Daley's Obituary
Richard William Daley, eldest son of Richard and Margaret Daley, of Somerville, Massachusetts, died on March 11, 2009, at the home of his beloved longtime companion, Agnes Mravczak. Richard, or Dick to all who knew him, graduated from St. John’s Catholic high school in 1956, and attended and graduated from Northeastern University in 1961 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was commissioned into the United States Army in 1962 and was stationed at Fort Drum, NY, where he met Mary Mecomonaco. They were married August 1, 1964, and had 3 daughters over the course of their 25-year marriage. During this time, Dick worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and completed a 1-year tour in Viet Nam during the Tet Offensive, as well as serving in Greece, Korea, Saudi Arabia and the Pentagon. He retired from the Army in 1982, after a distinguished 20-year career, at the rank of Lt. Colonel. From 1982-2007 he continued to work for the Corps of Engineers as a civilian. On his permanent retirement from the Corps of Engineers, he was honored by civilian and military alike for his decades of dedicated service. Dick spent his short retirement continuing to take part in the activities he loved most: traveling with Agnes, volunteering at the Viet Nam War Memorial, visiting with family and friends, playing golf, and shopping for his daughters and their families.
Dick is survived by his companion Agnes, his 3 daughters, Pamela, Christine and Bethany, his brother William and sister-in-law Patricia, 3 grandsons, Nicholas, Michael, and Jackson, his daughter-in-law Michelle, 2 sons-in-law, William and Brian, his former wife, Mary, and nieces and nephews.
