Robert Lee Hughes' Obituary
Robert Lee Hughes, 78, of Ashburn, VA passed away peacefully on February 16, 2024.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cinda Hughes, his two children, Bryan and Jennifer, their spouses, Edna and Zach, and his four grandchildren, Hope, Sam, Adam, and Emily.
Robert, or simply “Bob” to his closest friends, was born in Lake Park, IA. Bob saw many parts of the Midwest during his adolescence, gaining an affinity for airplanes and a love for seeing other parts of the world. He joined the Air Force in 1966 following high school, which brought him to southern California. Earning a rank of Sergeant and completing his bachelor’s degree at Cal State Dominguez Hills, Bob continued his journey with an incredible 42-year career at Aerospace. His success as a computer programmer during this point in his life allowed him to relocate and continue raising his family in Ashburn, VA.
His wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family were great sources of pride for Bob. Both children followed in their parents’ footsteps by graduating college and started families in Northern Virginia. Bob was always excited to attend every family recital, concert, and sporting event, and relished the opportunity to share stories of their successes. Nothing was more important to Bob than his family and this quality is something that will continue to carry on through each of them.
A visitation will be held on Thursday evening, February 22 from 5:00-7:00 at Loudoun Funeral Chapel. The following day, a memorial service for Bob will be held on Friday, February 23 at 11:00 also at Loudoun Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the UCSF Artificial Kidney Project in his memory.
