Robert William Murphy's Obituary
Robert “Bob” William Murphy, 64 of Ashburn, Virginia passed on Sunday, March 13, 2016.
Bob was born Sunday, October 14, 1951 in Clarksburg, WV. He was the son of the late Robert S. Murphy and the late Hilda Moody Riedel. He was also the stepson of the late Paul Riedel. Bob grew up in Oxon Hill, MD, and then moved to the Northern VA area.
In 2001 Bob married the love of his life Debbie Footer. He was employed by Fairfax Auto Parts as the general manager. Bob’s passion besides his family, was coaching football. He coached every level from ankle biters to semi pro. His last coaching job was at John Paul The Great High School in Dumfries, VA. He fell in love with this school the first time he stepped onto the field. He said this school embodied the same spirit he felt when he walked onto the field at the University of Notre Dame.
In addition to his wife he leaves three children to cherish his memory including his son, Erin Patrick Murphy & wife Dana, daughter, Bonnie Kathleen Steverson & husband Clay and Marci Jocelyn Geary & husband Rob. He is also survived by his sister Linda Compton & her husband Jimmy and brothers, Scott Riedel and Pete Riedel; and 9 grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan, Gracie, Emmy, Kaiome, Emily, Madi, Corinna, and Anthony.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 18, 2016, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, Virginia.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday March 19, at St. Theresa Catholic Church located at 21371 St. Theresa Lane Ashburn, Virginia 20147 with the Father Thomas Cavanaugh officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family to defray final expenses or to Blue Ridge Hospice.
Also as a tribute to Debbie’s Jewish faith, she will be receiving friends and family on Sunday March 20, 2016 and Monday March 21, 2016 at her home.
