Robert Oliphant's Obituary
Robert Chambers Oliphant, 80 of Waterford, VA died January 13, 2007 at Heritage Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Leesburg, VA.
He was a sixth generation Washingtonian born on May 19, 1926 to the late A. Chambers Oliphant and Ruth Parker Larner. He attended St. Alleans School in Washington and Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania and was an Army Air Corps Veteran.
Roberts two brothers John Larner Oliphant and S. Parker Oliphant, both of Washington, D.C., preceded him in death. Robert and his brother John owned and operated the Oliphant Washington Service, started in 1930 by their father, which published a newsletter on energy policy.
He was a former deacon at New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington and was a member of Catoctin Presbyterian Church in Waterford, VA, after moving to Loudoun County in 1974.
Mr. Oliphant was a long time member and served on the board of Conversations at Oatlands and was a supporter of Loudoun Hunt.
He was an avid collector of antique gas engines and toy trains. He was a member of the Loudoun Amateur Radio group, earning his Technician License and using the call sign KF4VBM.
His wife, Martha Egerton Oliphant died in 1990.
He is survived by three daughters, Mary Trundle Oliphant and Florence Oliphant Bell of Leesburg, and Ruth Oliphant Johnsey of Waterford; one grandson Justin Skinner Bell; one son-in-law Donald Johnsey, and five nephews.
Friends may call on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 from 6 to 8 pm at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 17, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Catoctin Presbyterian Church.
Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA.
