Robert Cecil Pittman's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert Cecil Pittman, our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend on February 7, 2025. Born on May 24, 1943, in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, Robert was the cherished son of Cecil and Lucille Pittman.
Robert’s life was marked by dedication, service, and enduring love for his family. After graduating from East Tennessee State University, he joined the United States Army, where he served with honor and distinction in Vietnam, Thailand, and Germany. His military career culminated in his retirement as a Major. Upon retiring, Robert returned to Manassas, where he continued to be an active and engaged member of his community.
Robert was a quiet man of few words, yet his love for his family knew no bounds. He had a wickedly dry sense of humor that could light up a room. As a life-long Washington Commanders fan, he always enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams play. He and his beloved wife, Carolyn, had a shared love for hosting family dinners and organizing family vacations, especially at the beach. Those gatherings were filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories. Carolyn’s passing during the height of the COVID lockdown in 2020 was especially difficult for him, but their love story, built on shared joy, humor, and a deep commitment to family, will remain an enduring part of his legacy.
In recent years it brought immense joy to him to visit his extended family in the North Carolina mountains for reunions.
Robert’s generosity extended beyond his time and efforts; he was also an organ donor, continuing to give even after his passing.
Robert will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his generosity, his sense of humor, and his quiet strength. His legacy of love, service, and care for others will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Brian and Jennifer Pittman, Susan and Joe Luce, and Amelia and David Trout; his six grandsons, Mitchell Pittman, Connor Pittman, Riley Luce, Liam Trout, Cole Luce, and Cameron Trout; his beloved sister, Cecelia Burleson; and his sister-in-law Sylvia Kaneko. Robert also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will continue to honor his memory.
Services will be held at a later date.
