Col. Robert Murrell Rose's Obituary
Robert Murrell Rose, Colonel, USA (ret.), 87, passed away at his home in Lansdowne, VA, on Friday, October 25, 2013.
He was born October 5, 1926 in Marshall, Missouri.
While attending The Citadel, he received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York graduating in 1949.
He served in Germany as Squadron Commander of the 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment; in Korea with the First Cavalry Division, and in Vietnam as Commander of the Support Command, Americal Division.
His decorations include WWIIVM, ACM (G), NDSM w/1OLC, ARCOM, GSIdentBad, VSM, VCM w/Device 60 LM w/ OLC, and 2 O/S BARS.
He attended the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and the Army War College at Carlise Barracks, Pennsylvania. At the Pentagon he served with the offices of DCSLOG and OCRD.
After receiving an MA in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania in 1956, he taught English at West Point. He also received an MA in International Affairs from The George Washington University in 1965.
Upon retiring from the Army in 1971, he returned to Marshall as Managing Partner of Rose and Buckner, third generation of the Rose family to hold this position.
In 2004 he moved to Leisure World.
He is survived by his wife Betty; son, John; daughter-in-law Mahvash; granddaughters Jacqueline and Jennifer.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 1 pm at Fort Myer Old Post Chapel.
Interment will follow in Arlington National Cemetery
