Robert Emil Siebeking's Obituary
Robert Emil Siebeking was born on December 22, 1924 in Clifton, New Jersey, to Robert Gustav Siebeking and Augusta Wilkie Siebeking. Robert passed quietly into the Lord’s presence in Ashburn, Virginia on July 25, 2015. He was 90 years old. He had been a resident of Maple Grove Acute Nursing Care facility for the past several months while convalescing from a fall.
“Bob” lived a long and much-loved life as son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather, having been born to first generation Americans whose parent’s immigrated from Austria and Switzerland. He carried with him a fondness for his family’s customs and traditions from the old world, but was fiercely proud to be an American. He served with the US Army Air Forces in World War II, and with the New Jersey Air National Guard for many years after the war, rising to the rank of sergeant. He specialized in instructing new combat pilots on the Link trainers of his day. He was inquisitive, well-read, a gifted conversationalist, and quick with a humorous story or tall tale, all attributes that served him well in his post-Army career as a top salesman for various dry cleaning supply companies for more than 40 years.
Bob met and married his church sweetheart, Mabel Anna Hudos, at Warren Point Presbyterian Church in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, now known as Elmwood Park, New Jersey. They were married March 20th, 1948, with Bob’s life long friend and brother-in-law; Anthony “Bud” Hagedorn officiating as best man and sister-in-law; Louise Hudos Hagedorn officiating as matron of honor. They had reached their 67th wedding anniversary at the time of his passing.
Of his many life experiences and accomplishments, he was proudest of his three children, Robert John Siebeking, David Edward Siebeking, and Joan Linda Siebeking Snowden, and of his grandchildren, Amanda Siebeking Hesterman (husband Eric), Robert “Brian” Siebeking (wife Stefanie), Mark Siebeking (wife Marci), Julie Siebeking Peterson (husband Phil), Jill Siebeking Rocca (husband Mark), and Hayley Snowden (daughter of Joan and Ernie). Bob was the proud great-grandfather of 10 great-grandchildren.
Some of his happiest moments were in vacationing on Cape Cod, Massachusetts where he first visited during his annual Air National Guard duty and then retirement living there for several years before moving back to the Washington DC area.
Bob was preceded in death by his sister Shirley S. Hopper and his son Robert J. Siebeking. Bob was a faithful and committed servant of Jesus Christ and when he was able, was a regular attendee at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Maryland. Bob is survived by his wife, Mabel Anna Hudos Siebeking. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Graveside services and interment were held on Friday at 1:30 at Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville, MD.
