Robert H. Waldrup of Waterford, VA
Robert Hanson Waldrup, 66, a resident of Loudoun County for almost 20 years, lost his courageous battle with brain cancer on Tuesday, July 21, 2009. Waldrup served in the US Air Force for more than 26 years, retiring in 1987 as a Chief Master Sergeant and the Senior Enlisted Advisor to Air University at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama. After retiring, he joined the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce as the Vice President for Economic Development where he worked for a number of years, recruiting large defense contractors and system integrators to the area. His economic development work is credited for bringing tens of thousands of jobs to the Montgomery area.
Waldrup came to Northern Virginia in 1991 after joining Electronic Data Systems (EDS) as a Director Business Development. He retired from EDS and went on to serve in similar positions at SAIC, Convergent Media and Adapx, Inc. Through the years, he was active in various community activities in our area serving on the Loudoun Hospital Board and Leesburg Economic Development Commission, as Chair of Deacons at McLean Baptist Church and as a lifetime member of the Air Force Association. He was an avid sports car enthusiast and collector of bird carvings.
Waldrup is survived by his wife, Cheryl Walker Waldrup of Waterford; four children, Kimberly, Tim and Mike Waldrup of Las Vegas, Nevada; Jeffrey S. Waldrup of Montgomery, Alabama; and five grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Thomas and Richard Waldrup of Louisiana; two sisters, Sharon Black also of Louisiana and Rebecca Rossway of Vero Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Edwina Waldrup of LaPlace, Louisiana and his older brother, Arlen Waldrup of Eldorado, Arkansas.
A Visitation will be held at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, in Leesburg, VA on Friday, July 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will follow at McLean Baptist Church 1367 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, VA 22101 on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Michael Catlett officiating.
Graveside services and interment will be held with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday, October 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.
