Rodger D. Baker's Obituary
Rodger D. Baker passed away peacefully at home Sunday, January 11, 2026, after a long hard-fought, courageous battle with ALS. Rodger spent his final weeks surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his wife Kathryn, Children Kara Lynn Baker, Patrick McBride (Keyana Chappelle), Sarah McBride, his “Little Shortstop” grandson, Kellan Chappelle McBride, and many much-loved siblings-in-law, nieces and nephews. Rodger was predeceased by his parents Clarence and Dorothy (Thompson) Baker, his brother Charles “Chuck” Baker (Jean) and sister Rhonda Barnett (Jack).
Rodger was a Sgt. 1st class in the United States Army and would proudly say he served for 15 years, 4 months and 29 days. Upon leaving military service he began a decades long career in Project Management/Government Contracting where he was proud to lead teams and become a trusted advisor and mentor to anyone willing to learn from him. Rodger spent the final decade of his career at SAIC, retiring in 2018.
Rodger enjoyed all things Washington sports, especially the Commanders and his much-loved Washington Nationals. During his retirement he could often be heard saying he never missed a Nationals game and was more than a fan, he was a lifelong student of the game. Rodger loved to travel with his wife Kathryn and their children. In his final years, the family enjoyed several wonderful trips to Aruba and Rodger loved to share the stories of these trips with anyone willing to listen.
The family is planning a celebration of Rodger’s life and details will be provided at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the VA-DC-MD ALS association, http://web.alsa.org/goto/RodgerBaker
