Rohima Byas' Obituary
Rohima Byas, 77, of Alexandra, Virginia was called home on Monday, October 28, 2024 at Virginia Hospital Center.
Born February 15,1947 in Toledo, Ohio. She was the daughter of Waz Ullah and Ruth Isabella McNeil. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Shari Adair, and sister Suna Rahman. Rohima is survived by her daughters Laura Shalema Adair and Janine Cynthia Byas, siblings Phebe Ullah, Moyna Husain, Motiur Ullah, Nosiba Ullah, Todd Ullah, and Mina Rahman. She worked as an accountant, ultimately in her own private practice before retiring.
Education and world affairs were very important to her. Rohima loved adventure, travel, and getting caught cheating at card games. Mostly, she loved music and she danced in sheer joy with a shoulder shimmy and sometimes a little stumble. She enjoyed her independence, driving the car or her scooter, and adeptly navigating her walker whether down the hallway or on the dance floor.
Known for her gentle spirit, she was a source of wisdom and comfort to those around her, always offering a listening ear and a prayer. Rohima’s interfaith and multicultural community of friends and family extends far and wide beyond all borders. A woman of strong faith, resilience, intelligence and wit, she brought life into every room she entered. She has impacted so many people’s lives through her unconditional love, unending optimism, infectious laugh, and genuine enthusiasm for connecting with and learning about others. She knew no strangers. She was kind, she was pretty, she was smaaaaaart. She was everyone’s favorite all the things. Her eyes sparkled and her smile lit up the faces of all those lucky enough to cross her path. Rohima has been a firecracker full of joy, sass and a zest for life we all are inspired by and might aspire to guide our own lives. Always worried about everyone else, Rohima would say to you now - go live your life, love each other, and be happy.
The family will be receiving friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM on Monday, November 4, 2024 at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, with a memorial service from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. There will be a celebratory gathering afterwards at her brother Motiur’s home in Leesburg.
