Ronald Wayne Edwards Jr.'s Obituary
Ronald Wayne Edwards, Jr., 54, of Leesburg, Virginia passed away after a courageous and hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer on September 21, 2024. He was born to MSgt (Ret) Ronald W. Edwards, Sr. and Linda Lasher Edwards on September 19, 1970, at Loudoun Memorial Hospital in Leesburg, Virginia. He was the eldest child and loving brother to Amy and Melanie. He grew up a military brat in many duty stations, living all over the world. The family moved to Florida in 1982 where he became an avid, die-hard Miami Dolphins fan. From the time he was little, he always loved sports whether it was playing t-ball and pitching, or football, and bowling.
Ron, or Ronnie as many affectionately called him, graduated from Homestead High School in Homestead Florida, Class of 1989, where he met the love of his life, Mai Jagers when she was 16 and he was 17 years old. His senior year of high school in ‘89, Ron was the punter on his undefeated Bronco’s football team and was named All South Dade County. After graduation he attended Kemper Military school and college in Booneville, MO on a football scholarship. There he was named a Junior All-American punter. Ron and Mai settled for a time in South Florida. Following the devastation of hurricane Andrew, they decided to pack their things in the car and drive to VA in 1992. They were married on April 5, 1993, at the Courthouse in Leesburg, VA.
Once he and Mai relocated to Virginia, he went to work at Andy’s Pizza and Subs in Leesburg for a short time. After which, he went to work with his Dad Ron Sr., Grandfather Jim, and several Uncle’s at Smith Thomas & Smith in Bethesda, MD where he was a loyal employee for over 25 years. He started on the general maintenance crew, moved after some time to painter, and eventually on to carpentry. Because he was such a skilled contractor and carpenter, he became a VIP at client’s worksites and was always on the “most-requested” list. He was a talented contractor and carpenter who could fix just about anything, always lending a helping hand to others, and offering the best advice.
Ron had many hobbies and interests that he loved to do with friends and family. He was an avid fisherman, loved to garden, occasionally deer hunt, and attend NASCAR races but what he loved the most was bowling and his bowling family. He was an accomplished bowler often scoring many perfect 300 games. He traveled and bowled in tournaments all over the country like Las Vegas, Reno, and Pennsylvania with who he lovingly called his “brother from another mother,” Oley Khounesavath.
Ron was the epitome of a true friend and family man. He loved his wife and family dearly and there will forever be a giant hole where his presence was.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 31 years, Mai (Jagers) Edwards, his beloved running buddy Rusty the dachshund, and loyal companion Snickers the dachshund. Also leaving behind to cherish his memory are his parents Ronald W. Edwards, Sr., and Linda Lasher Edwards of Ashburn, VA, Mother-In-Law Ut Jagers of Homestead, Florida, Sister Melanie Quinonez of Ashburn, VA, Brother-in-law Dean Jagers and wife Trang of Homestead, Florida, brother-in-law Gene Jagers and wife Michelle of Tallahassee, Florida, and brother-in-law Jerry Jagers of Homestead, Florida, Uncle Robert Lasher and wife Sonya of Benbrook, Texas, Uncle Timothy Lasher and wife Lara of Lovettsville, VA, Aunt Risa Decatur and husband Mike of Fredericksburg, VA, Uncle Calvin Edwards and wife Vicki of Ormond Beach, Florida, Aunt Diana Mays, and husband Herbert of Clearbrook, VA, Aunt Linda Rives and husband James of Roaring Gap, NC, Aunt Karen Tiffany and husband Syd of Culpeper, VA. Aunt Marcia Mitchell of Snohomish, Washington, Aunt Lisa Jagers of Ocala, Florida, Uncle Jeff Greenblatt and wife Liz of Sterling, VA, Uncle Derek Lasher of Meridian, MS, and Aunt Laurie Perry and husband of Spring Grove, PA.
