Ronald Leo Wise's Obituary
Ronald Leo Wise
Ronald Leo Wise passed quietly into the arms of his Heavenly Father on April 11, 2016. He suffered from Parkinson’s disease.
Ron was born in Chicago, IL in 1938 to Ron and Helen (Holmes) Wise. For many years he worked in the family business, Gust Spring Service. In 1973, he made the first of many career changes and moved his family to Arkansas. It was there he accepted Jesus as his personal Savior. Ron became active in the Freewill Baptist Church and the Gideons where he frequently sang as part of his ministry. It was difficult on him when Parkinson’s robbed him of his voice.
Over the years, he lived in Indiana, Arkansas, Louisiana, Florida, Texas, Wyoming, California, Nevada and finally Virginia. He always enjoyed living in and experiencing the many parts of the U.S.
Later in life, one of his passions was the Ashburn Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department (AVFRD) Station 6 where he served as an EMT in the 1990’s. After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2006, he moved back to Virginia, where he utilized his bookkeeping and tax preparation skills as part of the fundraising efforts for the recently completed Station 6. He was so proud to be a member of AVFRD and spent many hours there over the years volunteering his time. Sadly, while he saw pictures of the station’s construction and completion, he was unable to visit it in person.
He is survived by children Kathleen D’Amato, Darlene (Joe) Travagline, Brad (Shannon) Wise; grandchildren Eric (Ashley) Smialek, Joshua Smialek, Emily D’Amato, Robert D’Amato, Conner Wise, Paige Wise, Maria (Sean) Zurhorst; three great-grandchildren, his former wife Sharlene Wise, and his brother, Frederick Wise.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 2 pm, at Our Savior’s Way Lutheran Church, 43115 Waxpool Rd, Broadlands, VA 20148. There will be light refreshments following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ashburn Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department, http://ashburnfirerescue.org/donate/donations or to Our Savior’s Way Lutheran Church http://www.oswlc.org/give/beyond-tithing.
