Every Wednesday evening I would walk into Westminster Presbyterian Church here in Jacksonville, FL and find Rose Kinnaman preparing our evening meal. It was always a welcome sight. There she was, standing with her apron on and a smile that lit the room. I can still hear her, “Well hey Mr. Chip! How are you?” The greeting so was genuine and heartfelt you couldn't help but smile as well. Rose was in her element – serving the needs of others.
When I think of the characteristics of a Christian, I think of a servant. When someone says that they are a Christian, I am always looking for the good works that accompany the profession of faith. Rose lived out her faith day in and day out by giving herself away. Perhaps she had a better understanding of the great truths of the Bible because she lived her life so others could move ahead. Prestige and positions of authority didn't motivate her. She was driven by a servant’s heart.
Many people never saw the countless hours she and Tom spent together, making sure the church and the grounds were ready for Wednesday and Sunday. They missed all of the menu planning and the time spent alone preparing the meals. Rose was a silent servant, one of God’s agents here on earth. My life is richer because she gave.
Thank you Rose!
