Ruth Gourley Barnet, born Octobr 12, 1918, Tacoma, WA; died April 24, 2018, Leesburg, VA.
She leaves 2 daughters (Elna B. Hunter, Lovettsville, VA, and Lori A Barnet (Duncan), Rockville, MD.), 5 grand-children, and great-grand-children. She was married for over 70 years to F. Robert (Bob) Barnet, who died in 2015.
Mrs. Barnet was a homemaker, teacher, and artist. She earned a BA from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Arts from American University, Washington, DC. After her marriage in 1943, she worked as a legal secretary, then raised her daughters, returning to work as a teacher in the Art Department at Montgomery College, Takoma Park, MD. After her husband retired, they moved to Loudoun County and an old home in the Hamilton area, which they restored. Mrs. Barnet continued her painting and other artwork, eventuallly turning it into a business. For many years, she and her husband sold their artwork--miniature paintings and wood-turnings--at Sugerloaf Craft shows. Between shows, they traveled extensively abroad.
Besides her family, Mrs. Barnet leaves many friends and acquaintances from her travels, her business, and the book club she belonged to for 30 years.
