Samuel Irving Nichols, Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Samuel Irving Nichols, Jr., 71 of Lansdowne, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2011.
Sam was born May 28, 1940 in Norfolk, Virginia. He was a son of the late Samuel Nichols, Sr. and the late Jeanne Marie Hill Nichols. He was the husband of Gale Frances Nichols.
Sam served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a graduate of Northern Virgina Community College and spent his career in Parks and Recreation Management with the Fairfax Co. Park Service and the National Park Service, including tours as facilities manager at Glen Echo Park, Antietam National Battlefield, Wolf Trap Farm Park for the Performing Arts and the National Capital Region.
He was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church of Leesburg, VA. He is survived by his four adult children, David William Nichols of Alexandria, VA and wife Cheryl, Suzanne Mary Antkowiak of Crownsville, MD and husband Ben, James Thomas Nichols of Leesburg, VA and wife Jessie and Samuel Joseph Nichols of Catonsville, MD and girlfriend Kristen Risch; and six grandchildren: Alexandra (12), Hunter (10), Erica (8) and Jenna (1) Nichols and Brian (14) and Erin (11) Rich.
Sam is also survived by his sister, Victoria Nichols of The Villages, FL and brothers Richard Nichols of Great Cacapon, WV and wife Kathy, and Joseph Nichols of Berkley Springs, WV. He was preceded in death by his brother John Nichols of Berkeley Springs, WV.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, Virginia. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 231 North King Street Leesburg, Virginia 20175 with the Father Francis Peffley officiating.
Interment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Leesburg, VA.
