Santi Sengupta's Obituary
Santi Sengupta was born on July 1, 1920 in Calcutta, India. She was the fourth of six siblings, with an older brother, two older sisters, and two younger brothers. Her father, Khagendranath Sen, was a land assessor. Her mother, Leelamoyee Sen, passed when Santi was sixteen. She was a stellar student and excelled in mathematics. Ultimately, the loss of her mother endowed Santi with a drive to tirelessly care for those around her.
In 1944, she married Indu Bhusan Sengupta, an engineer who worked for Tata Steel. In Jamshedpur, they made a home with their two sons, Tapan and Tarun. In their later years, the couple emigrated to Canada to be with Tapan and Anuradha in Toronto, and after her husband’s passing, Santi moved to Great Falls, Virginia, to be with Tarun and Rumy. She made friends easily, was a consummate host, and took great interest in the professions of her children and grandchildren. She was surrounded by her family when she passed peacefully in her home on July 24, 2019.
She is survived by her two sons, Tapan and Tarun, daughters-in-law Anuradha and Rumy, and grandchildren Rishik, Mehreen, Ritam, Neil, Humera, and Josh.
A memorial service will take place at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel & Crematory on Friday, July 26 2019, at 10am.
