Shelby Jean Jones' Obituary
Shelby Jean Jones, 53 of Fort Washington, MD was called home to be with her Lord, on Thursday, October 9, 2014.
Shelby was born Monday, January 23, 1961 in Washington, DC. She was the daughter of the late Burrill Kendall and the late Sonja Jones Thomas. Shelby worked for many years as an executive assistant within the private sector until the recession hit in 2010 and she was one of many laid off. She then chose to continue her education and earn her bachelor of science in business administration from Sanford Brown College in Tysons Corner, VA. She graduated with honors.
Shelby was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church in Leesburg, VA. She was the President of the Providence Combined Choir and sang with the St James Community Choir & Phase I of Washington, DC. She also was a former member of the Ebenezer AME Church in Ft. Washington, M.D.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her home family, her devoted auntie Wilma J. Cartwright, her cousins Marcie Cartwright Howard and Devonne Howard all of Ft. Washington, MD, her brothers, Donald Floyd (Marilyn) of Bellingham, MA, Samuel Thomas II (Robin) of Sterling, VA, and Jeffery Thomas (Christine) of Winchester, VA; her sisters, Karen Kendall of Washington, DC, Mildred Thomas of Sterling, VA, Rebecca Thomas of Sterling, VA and Sharon Thomas of Sterling, VA; a host of aunts, cousins, other family members and friends. Shelby was predeceased by her beloved grandmother Sallie J. Morris, and her brother Kelvin C. Jones.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Providence Baptist Church located at 205 Church Street S.E. Leesburg, Virginia 20175 with the Rev. Dr. Herbert C. Love officiating.
The viewing began at 10 am at the church on Saturday.
Interment was at Mount Olive Cemetery, Lincoln, VA.
