Blonde with sparkling blue eyes, beautiful, kind and giving are the words that come to mind to describe Sherrie. She always had a warm smile for everyone - a ray of sunshine that lit up the room. My mother loved her as soon as they met at the Loudoun hospital where Sherrie worked as a Candy Striper, and my mother as a nurse. I thought she was lovely too, and did a quick sketch of her pretty face trying to capture that soft sweetness!
Sherrie, an accomplished cook and hostess, was devoted to her family. Intelligent, hard working and very resourceful, she worked in widely diverse fields - restaurants, hospitals, banks, the credit department of a large department store chain, etc., etc., While living in California she’d leave home at 5am to avoid the traffic and be back home early for her beloved sons. Everyone she worked with fell under her charm, so she quickly rose up in the ranks wherever she was employed.
Although I didn’t get to see Sherry very often since I lived in France and she in California, when they moved to our family farm in Virginia after my father’s death (where I visited regularly throughout the years) we had many fascinating conversations about books. Sherry loved to read, would suggest titles to me and we’d have long discussions about writing styles, the various themes and the different characters.
Such fond, happy memories of my sister in law.....May you Rest In Peace, sweet Sherrie.
