Stanley Field Caulkins' Obituary
Stanley Field Caulkins, 92, of Leesburg, Virginia, passed on Friday, January 12, 2018, at his home in Leesburg, Virginia. Stanley was born on Tuesday, October 6, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was one of four sons of the late Rev. Charles Whitney and the late Eunice Field Caulkins, Jr.
He served as a Tech Sgt. In the United States Air Force and flew in a B-17 Bomber as a radioman during World War II. He was a member of Leesburg Rotary from 1947 to the present, serving as President in 1965, and a member of the VFW in Leesburg.
Stanley was a businessman in Leesburg, owning Caulkins Jewelers for decades. He served on the Town Council and chaired the airport commission for many years. He was an avid pilot. The terminal building at the Leesburg Airport is named in his honor.
His recollection of his time in Leesburg include his many relationships with likes of Governor Westmoreland Davis, General George Marshall and entertainer Arthur Godfrey. He was part of the VOLE Society which was a group that had no purpose but met for lunch every day at the Leesburg Restaurant for 35 years.
He was a friend to everyone in Leesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles Whitney Caulkins, Jr., Roger William Caulkins and niece, Elizabeth Lynn Caulkins.
Survivors include his brother Reverend Thomas Caulkins and wife Ann of Murfreesboro, NC; sister-in-law Elizabeth W. Caulkins; nephews Roger Wallace Caulkins and his wife Janet of Gap Mills, WV; David Caulkins and wife Pat of Waynesboro, VA; and Mike Caulkins and wife Pam of Lynchburg, VA; and nieces Barbara Whitehead and husband Ken of Ocala, FL; Charlene Caulkins Eason and husband Jimmy of Murfreesboro, NC; and Bonnie Caulkins Revelle and husband Chuck of Murfreesboro, NC; and 13 great nieces and nephews and several great, great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, at the Leesburg Community Church in the Worship Center. A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Leesburg Union Cemetery.
