I am heart broken. I called Dr. Crossland's office today to refer a patient. The line was disconnected. I looked on line to discover this very sad news. Dr. Crossland saved my husband's life on September 10, 2010. He cared for him for the next 18 months as if he were one of his family. He even came to our house one evening to take out stiches. He was a wonderful Doctor, He became a family friend. My husband did pass away March 2012 but it wasn't for lack of Dr. Crossland doing everything to keep him alive. We will miss him dearly. As many of you already know, Dr. Crossland saved our daughter Katie's life . He correctly diagnosed and treated a massive blood clot that could have claimed her life. What few people know is how Dr. Crossland came to be Katie's doctor. More than 25 years ago., Dr. Crossland treated a client of mine for a blood clot and helped us win the case in court. I had no contact with him again for 25 years until Katie was injured. We were desperate for help and I called Dr. Crossland on a Saturday morning , left a message for him, and he immediately called me, remembered me, and instructed me to bring Katie in to see him that very day. He assumed the role of the primary doctor for her and continued to see us through the winter.. He drove to his office to meet us during a severe snow storm when the roads were buried in snow.The parking lot was empty except for his truck and mine. We laughed that our Chevrolet Suburbans were the same and were great for the snow!! He continued to treat Katie throughout her long recovery and always treated her with respect, patience and love. I asked him once if I could get him a gift and he suggested a bottle of vodka. I knew nothing about vodka but was advised that Hangar Vodka was really good. I got a bottle for Dr Crossland and he loved it, insisting that it was too good to share!!! Over the years I would stop by on occasion and leave him a bottle which always brought a big smile to his face. Seeing him always made me happy.
I asked him once what was the secret to being a good doctor. He said the key was to listen carefully to the patients and not rush to a conclusion without considering what the patient expressed. We will always be grateful to Dr. Crossland, who will always be my hero. God Bless. Peter
There will never be another physician like Stanley. There will never be another person, father, husband, or friend like him. He worked hard, loved hard and played hard when he allowed himself moments away from medicine, although he was really never separated from his patients. He rarely left their care to another physician. While sitting on a beach watching the kids splash in the waves or scuba diving with his sons on the Cayman Islands, his beeper/phone or device was still ON, JUST in case the physician covering him has questions. Stanley was always "ON". As a nurse who worked beside him caring for his ICU patients he was the only doctor that never got upset with you for calling him in the middle of the night with a valid concern regarding his patients. He might, however make you think he could possibly tear your face off if you had NOT contacted him. He gave 110 % to his patients and expected 100% back from his care team. Not everyone liked Stanley. As a nurse, you had to earn his respect, but once you had proved yourself to be competent and intelligent you had an advocate for life in him. Not all his colleagues liked him but I assure you they respected him. He was never afraid to do what was best for his patients regardless of the rules. Yes, this man will be missed by many and left impressions on so many lives-even the ones he did not save in the operating room. Maya Angelou once said, “We can write a eulogy that honors the deceased and expresses your heartfelt emotions.” And, I met Dr. Stanley G Crossland fifteen plus years ago. I quickly recognized in him he has unfiltered honesty, fierce loyalty to friendship and a patriotic love to our country, so in a very short time we intellectually clicked quickly. He made it easy so people could also recognize he wasn’t just an excellent medical doctor (Surgeon) but also a man with many attributes with an ability discussing many subjects with comfort and confidence.
He was a person who had a good supply of kindness that shared his time and resources with anyone whom the thought they needed it. As I had witnessed firsthand, during Solomon’s last critical journey of his life, he was the only hope we had left. He tried every humanly possible way to save Solomon’s life. He came in the morning and late at night to check on him and what he could do to help. For me, that was one of the most unforgettable experiences that he etched in my mind that I will never forget his kind gesture.
Sure, Jessica and Lora, I know how much he loved you and you love him, it will be a very difficult journey for you and along the rest of your families; but one day you will feel “the fog” begin to lift and will see a sense of renewed desire to live again. As a matter of fact his memories will bring you more smiles than tears and you will discover ways to reinvest your time and energy productively to make him proud. But we will never forget your father, Dr. Stanley G Crossland. His legacy of kindness and love will live on in our heart and mind forever. Rest in Peace, Brother.

Very sad to hear this. My condolences to Dr. Crossland's family. My mom, sister, and I are eternally grateful for the treatment and care Dr. Crossland provided to my dad during his battle with cancer. Other doctors did not give my dad much time (they said he would not make it past spring). But Dr. Crossland made it possible for us to celebrate my sister's graduation in May, celebrate my birthday and Father's day in June. Rest in Peace.
My heartfelt sympathy to the family. Dr. Crossland was a great person and physician who goes above and beyond to help others. My family and I are forever grateful in how he took care of my husband till the end. He is our hero. Prayers with the family and loved ones to give comfort and strength.
