Steven Lyle Evans' Obituary
Steven L. Evans, 79 of Ashburn, Virginia passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025 in Aldie, Virginia. Born Friday, November 30, 1945 in Washington D.C., a son of the late Edward P. Evans and the late Betty Jane Evans.
Steve graduated from George Mason University with a degree in business administration. He married his high school sweetheart Nancy L. Forness in 1967. They both grew up in Arlington, Virginia and met at Washington-Lee High School when Steve was a senior. They dated and were married in St. George’s Episcopal Church in Arlington, Virginia. During their marriage they lived in and around Virginia.
Steve’s career included working for McDonnell Douglas, National Clearing Corp in New York City, 22 years for Allegheny/USAIR airlines and ending his career at Oracle as a project manager where he retired in 2020.
He gave his life to his savior Jesus Christ and was baptized in 1974 serving in the church as a deacon and an elder at Christian Assembly of Vienna, Virginia. He believed in the power of prayer and witnessed to many about the love of Jesus in his lifetime.
Steve lived life to the fullest and enjoyed many pursuits including sailing & boating, scuba diving, motorcycling, hunting, fishing, cooking, photography, painting, travel, cruising, collecting books, music including playing the saxophone and guitar and enjoyed operating his ham radio. Steve will always be remembered fondly for his great sense of humor and fun loving spirit. We know he’s in heaven enjoying a nice glass of wine and sipping on Courvoisier VSOP cognac.
He leaves his family to cherish his memory including his beloved wife Nancy of 58 years, his daughter Karen M. and son-in-law Andrew Lewis of Leesburg, his son Daniel P. Evans and daughter-in-law Kathy of Montross, Va; a sister Diane K. Evans-Gayer of Arlington, Va.; 7 grandchildren: William P. Hepworth, Alyssa M. Hepworth, Abigail Brower, Rebekah Olsberg, Elizabeth Evans, Julie Evans, Katelyn Harris; 3 Great Grandchildren: Grayson, CJ, and Cooper ; nieces and nephews : Jennette Wall, Cathie Roubie, Brook Forness, Marcus Forness, Katie Forness and Kyle Forness.
A celebration of life will be held privately by the family this summer. In lieu of flowers, for Steve’s love of dogs, especially his own two King Charles Cavalier Spaniels, memorial donations may be made to the ASPCA.
