Steven P. Herrmann's Obituary
STEVEN P. HERRMANN, 75 of Ashburn, Virginia passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2022.
Born on July 14, 1946, in New York, New York; he was the second son of the late Otto and the late Erna Mueller Herrmann.
Steven received his BS in Engineering from Columbia University in New York, NY in 1968.
His professional career began immediately after college in the transportation industry. Steve spent his professional years as an Industrial Engineer working for The New York State Transportation Commuter Railroad, Metro-North. Prior to the formation of Metro-North in 1983, Steve worked for PennCentral and Conrail. Steve was proud of the many projects, plans, shops and yards, shop processes, and much more in the realm of Industrial Engineering and Planning. He was always detail-oriented, a great Engineer, and always dependable. Steve’s engineering contributions will live on for decades enriching the lives of thousands of daily New York railroad commuters. He retired in April of 2010 after 42 years of dedicated service.
Steve loved creating, replicating, and designing many items from bookcases, chests of drawers, armoires, to planning and designing additions, bathrooms, replacing roofs, etc. as a hobby. He remodeled much of their home in Crestwood, NY (Westchester County), and has been the go-to, how-to guy for family and friends. He also had a beautiful tenor voice and a great appreciation of liturgical Renaissance music, which began at age 10 when he auditioned for the all-male choir at Corpus Christi Church in Morningside Heights in Upper Manhattan. He continued his love of listening to Mozart, Palestrina, Faure, Bach, plus so many classical composers.
He leaves his family to cherish his memory including his wife, Julie Herrmann; son, Christopher, and daughter-in-law Brandi Herrmann, daughter Elizabeth, and son-in-law Sean Howery. He leaves behind five grandchildren: Emma, Abby, Sophie, Ava, and Aaron. Brother Thomas and wife Mary Anne Herrmann, step-sister Susan and husband Ted Szydlowski. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held privately by the family in the summer.
