Steven Byron Thorpe's Obituary
Steven Byron Thorpe, 52, of Aldie, VA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 26, 2025.
Proud son of Byron and Joan Thorpe (D’Imperio) and a devoted father to Ryan “RT” Cornell Thorpe, Steven was born on July 31, 1973, in Silver Spring, Maryland. He spent a majority of his childhood in Laytonsville, Maryland, where he developed a passion for athletics and endured the growing pains of becoming the man he would ultimately become. He graduated as a multi-sport varsity athlete from Damascus High School in 1991, lettering in baseball and golf, and earned a degree in Marketing from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 1995.
Steven dedicated his entire professional career to Ryan Homes and NV Homes, serving thousands of customers through various roles. Throughout his career, his customers met Steve while simultaneously becoming friends – as he developed positive rapport with everyone who walked through the doors of each community. He served with warmth, humor, and took a genuine interest in others he met – leaving a profound positive impression on all.
A passionate sports fan, Steven followed every local Washington team game. He could often be found offering enthusiastic, colorful commentary – especially to referees and coaches – from his favorite seat in front of the television. In recent years, he developed a passionate affinity for the TCU Horned Frogs (Go Frogs!), never missing a football, basketball, or baseball game. If the Frogs were playing, you knew exactly where to find Steven. For years, he served the local community as a beloved and well-known youth baseball coach, where he proudly mentored and served as a role model for several Loudoun South Little League championship teams, affectionately earning his community moniker “Coach!” – one that will stay with him eternally.
Above all else, Steven was most proud of his son, Ryan (RT). A father’s love was evident in every story and accomplishment he eagerly shared with anyone with listening ears. Steven never missed a youth baseball game, a high school performance, or a college family weekend – supporting Ryan in all of his endeavors. In recent years, Steven became a devoted viewer of KTEN News in Denison, Texas, faithfully watching each broadcast and story produced, written, and delivered by RT. To say he was proud of his “Mr. TCU” son would be a profound understatement.
Steven is survived by his parents, Byron and Joan Thorpe, his son Ryan Thorpe, his former wife, Melyssa Cornell, his aunt and uncle, Catia and Paul D’Imperio, and his cousins, Paul Michael, Cristina, and Nicholas D’Imperio.
