Susanne R. George
Mrs. Susanne R. George, 75, of Lovettsville passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at her residence. She was the wife of 53 years of the late Fred Lee George, Jr. (Pete) who passed away on July 23, 2006.
Susanne was born on January 13, 1934 in Unison, VA. She was the daughter of the late William Rawlings and the late Mildred Hoge Shackleford.
A graduate of Lincoln High School, Mrs. George attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, OH.
An accomplished musician, Mrs. George was the organist at St. James United Church of Christ in Lovettsville for many years. She was the current organist at Mt. Zion Church in Lovettsville.
Susanne was a school bus operator for over 20 years, for Loudoun County Public Schools. She was a member of the St. James United Church of Christ, The Lovettsville Museum and Women of the Moose. She was also a renowned tennis player in her youth and enjoyed golfing up until her death.
Surviving are her sons, Fred Lee George, III of Lovettsville, Thomas A. George of Frederick, MD, Charles H. George and wife Sally of Brunswick, and daughter Jacqueline Athey and husband Mark of Lucketts; Grandsons, Fred Lee George, IV and wife Tanya of Winchester, Timothy M. and Bradley T. George both of Brunswick, MD, Reese W. George and wife Monica of Winchester, Joseph G. Athey and wife Brittany of San Diego, CA; Granddaughters Ashleigh George of Point of Rocks and Amanda Athey of Lucketts; she was also survived by 5 great grandchildren Brittany George, Kaitlyn George, Fred Lee George, V, Madison George and Mason George, all of Winchester; sisters: Jacqueline Rowles and husband Jimmy of Milton, DE and Merrie Creasey and husband Wayne Westminster, MD.
Mrs. George will also be remembered by Anne DeCourcy, Beth Witchie, many cousins, nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
The family will receive friends at Brown/ Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 34 East Broad Way, Lovettsville, VA on Friday, October 2, 2009 from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 pm.
Funeral services will be held at St. James United Church of Christ 10 East Broad Way, Lovettsville, VA on Saturday, October 3, at 11 am, with The Rev. Don Prang and Rev. Roland England officiating.
Interment will be held privately at a later date.
