THELMA LOUISE SPRUILL's Obituary
THELMA LOUISE SPRUILL, 86, of Sterling, Virginia, peacefully passed away and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 11, 2022. Born on July 15, 1936, in Tarboro, North Carolina; She was one of eight children of the late Charlie Spruill and the late Caroline Vines Spruill.
Thelma was raised in Tarboro, NC and attended Edgecomb County Public schools. She was employed by the Government Printing Office in Washington, DC as a file clerk and retired after many years of service. She moved to Maryland to be close to her daughter, Veronica Belcher, who preceded her in death. In 2014, she moved to Virginia with her son Derek and daughter-in-law, Kay.
Thelma loved the Lord! She enjoyed listening to Dr. David Jeremiah, Dr. Charles Stanley and Jimmy Swaggart. While living in Virginia, Thelma was a member of Cedar Lane Bible Way Church where Alfred Archer serves as pastor. She enjoyed and would sing along while Pastor Archer played the harmonica and piano. One could always hear her singing “I Surrender All” around the house. Thelma also loved coconut cake and vanilla ice cream. Her favorite saying at the end of a phone conversation was “Peace Out”. She also loved to win at Bingo.
Thelma leaves her family to cherish her memory including surviving son, Derek (Kay) Spruill; granddaughter, Tyisha Belcher, great-granddaughter Takala Belcher, great-grandson Deon Belcher; brother, Clinton Spruill, sister-in-law, Mary Spruill; nieces, Jacqueline Bailey, Gail Williams, Joyce Ann Reeves, Gondalette Barber; nephews, Pastor Gregory Williams, Reginald Barber and James Spruill Jr. She is also survived by additional family members, Dietrich (Eric) Davis, Darryl (Karen) Williford, Saundra (Ward) Williford-Hall; her close friends, Lucy Archer, Sis. Mary Sumler and Irene Moppin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, September 24th, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM First Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 216 Loudoun ST, SW, Leesburg, VA 20175; where funeral services will follow at 11 am.
Interment will be held in Mt. Zion Community Cemetery, Leesburg, VA.
