I am saddened to just learn of Tom's death. We were members of the 1967 class at MCV. We enjoyed some fun times during those rigorous years. He was enjoyable to be around, we occasionally studied together and often rode home together due to the generosity of another classmate. Tom was a man of great integrity, a serious student and a man whose family was paramount. I was very fond of him. Frank (Major) Wray, Halifax, Va.
Dr. Gates was my surgeon after I was diagnosed with cancer about 37 years ago. I just loved him. Warm, comforting and honest with me during the time I was his patient. I was waiting to be taken into the operating room at Loudoun Hospital (the old one!) for surgery, and the nurse or tech was having trouble with the IV. Dr. Gates came out of the operating room and did it himself - at least that's how I remember it. I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure you will greatly miss this wonderful man with the twinkle in his eyes. I will be making a donation to hospice in his memory. Regards, Mary K. Lee, Leesburg, VA.
Dr. Gates was and always has been one of my favorite doctors. I have never had a doctor so caring since I moved from Leesburg. My deepest condolences to his family on the loss of a great man.

Ann & I only knew Tom for a very short time at Leesburg UMC, but I enjoyed the few times I spent with him. He was a wonderful person and I am proud to have known him even for the short time I did.

I am so sorry to hear this news. Tom was a great force for good in our community. My deepest condolences to Norma and family. I regret that I will not be able to attend the services as I will be traveling. May God grant you comfort and peace. Ed
I met the good Doctor as an “hysterical mom”- releasing my toddler son to his care; watching as he carefully wrapped my baby in a papoose and gave him his first stitches. His professionalism, kindness and care were always exceptional; my admiration and gratitude grew.
My last memory with Doc was watching as he sutured the deep laceration located one quarter of an inch from the femoral artery - a laceration my son received from a fall at the construction site at my parent’s home. My interaction with Dr. Gates was professional; a mom and the doctor.
My son had the pleasure of a professional and personal relationship with Dr. Gates through his auto business as Dr. Gates was one of my son’s longtime, loyal customers.
Dr. Gates will be missed by many and my grateful memories remain.
