Thomas John Madigan II's Obituary
Thomas John Madigan, II, 84, of Lovettsville, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 in Lansdowne, VA. Mr. Madigan was born March 5, 1924 in Bay Ridge, Queens, NY to the late Thomas J. and Bessie Maybelle Hanson Madigan. He served his country in the United States Navy as a Fire Control Technician during WWII. Mr. Madigan was a very talented artist and attended the Art Students League in New York City at a young age.
He was a jack-of-all-trades, working in various lines of work through out his life. Beginning in 1948 he worked as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Tulsa, OK. He then came back to the east coast and began working as a milkman with South Side Dairy in Sayville, NY. Mr. Madigan later opened his own dairy business in Sayville, Four Star Dairy, which he operated until 1977. When he moved with his family to Amherst, Massachusetts he worked with K-Mart Corporation until his retirement in 1987.
Mr. Madigan had a great knack and love for antiquing that he and his wife developed into a business when they moved to Locust Grove, Virginia in 1987. He was an active member of the Lions Club in Lake of the Woods and enjoyed reading and music.
Mr. Madigan is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mrs. Rosanna Gertrude Madigan of Leesburg; four children: Thomas J. Madigan III of Mastic Beach, NY, Erin Eileen Madigan-Fleck of Marietta, GA, Lt. Col. Brian David Madigan, US Army of Locust Grove, VA, Robyn Colleen Nettle of Lovettsville, VA; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends may call at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Cr. SE, Leesburg, VA on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 from 9 until the time of services at 11:00 am with Pastor Joseph Adams officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, VA.
