Col. Timothy F. O'Neill USAF Ret's Obituary
Col. Timothy F. O’Neill, USAF Retired, beloved son of the late John Henry O’Neill and Anne O’Connell O’Neill, passed peacefully in his sleep on July 24, 2014. He was born on December 24th, 1927 in Cambridge, Mass. After graduating from Lowell High School in 1945, he enlisted in the Navy and then married Doris Robarge on June 22nd, 1947. After participating in the ROTC, he graduated from the University of Connecticut. He then joined the Air Force and completed basic and jet pilot training.
Tim’s career included tours in Germany, France, Panama, and South Vietnam. He flew missions in over thirty countries and was a distinguished graduate and faculty member of the Squadron Officer School. Among his awards are the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. His last assignment was with the Joint Chiefs of Staff as Representative for Panama Canal Treaty negotiations. He retired in 1976 after 24 years of active duty and later served as Director of War Gaming and Analysis for BKD and SAIC.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Marie “Doris” O’Neill, Brian and Jennifer O’Neill, Barry O’Neill, Michael O’Neill, Steven and Leslie O’Neill, Tim O’Neill, Jr., Cathy and John Rush, Donna O’Neill, Diane and Kevin Huff, as well as seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, S.E. Leesburg, VA 20175 on Wednesday, July 30th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a Memorial Mass and Reception at Falcons Landing Chapel at 2 p.m.
