I was saddened to read about the death of Tom in yesterdays Loudoun Times Mirror. We worked together at Loudoun County Dept of Mental Health and Developmental Services. He was a Friendship House counselor while I worked in residential services. I found Tom to be a man who was a good role model and a person of integrity. He was someone that you could count on. Tom will be missed and my sympathies go out to his family and friends.

I hired Tom in 1977 or 78 and was his supervisor until I retired in 1998 and moved overseas. He was a valued employee, and friend. We shared many special occasions outside of work, marriages (his and mine) births of my kids, and get togethers. With clients he was outstanding--role model, life coach, counselor and advocate. There was only one time when I had to step in for him. We were playing basketball in the Gym in Purcellville and a client bumped into something or someone and bled. Tom was white as a ghost, and had to sit on the floor with his head down. I took care of the client (minor injury) and Tom. We had quite a laugh later. I am truly sorry to have missed his funeral and interment. I would like to contact the family directly. He will be missed. Shirley Thomas [email protected].
