The Journey of Life
Tony Elton Coates, resident of Leesburg, Virginia, passed away February 28, 2018, at the age of 69 years. He was born on December 20, 1948, to parents Carl Wallace and Eva Coates.
Tony attended Waterford Elementary and Douglass High schools. After school Tony proudly served his country for two years with the U.S Army during the Vietnam War. During his tour he was assigned to operate the tanks during combat. He was a very proud Vietnam Veteran.
Tony worked for various companies and organizations including the National Wildlife Federation, DDI, and Noland. After retirement he worked part-time for NAPA and Carquest Auto Parts.
Tony enjoyed fishing as one of his favorite pastimes. Early morning fishing trips were his favorite. Tony really enjoyed watching football. Anyone who knew him knows he was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. Tony loved to watch old western movies in his free time
In his earlier days, Tony played bass guitar with “The Soul Brothers,” an “oldies but goodies” band. He also enjoyed attending drag racing events.
Tony leaves to cherish his memory his devoted fiancé Deborah Elliott; children Michael Day, Teresa Naylor, Tyra Coates, and Tyshia Bailey; grandchildren Keanu Bailey, James, Jr., Octavia, Chanta, Ja’Mya, and La’Trice Naylor, Marquell Smith, and Makenzie Anderson. He also leaves sisters Bonita “Bonnie” Jackson and Claudia “Tina Sis” Smith, and brothers Charles “Butch” Coates, Earl “Bud” Coates, and Ray “Buster” Coates, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and many life-long friends.
Tony was predeceased by father Carl Wallace, mother Eva Coates, brother Reginald “Reggie” Coates, and sister Brenda Coates.
